Welcome to Homebody

Our mission at Homebody is to teach you how to take care of your body at home or wherever you may be because our home is our body. We’re very passionate about giving you tools that you can use anywhere without having to rely solely on healthcare professionals. Empowering you to take control of your health and well-being is very important to us. We provide individuals with Therapeutic Massage to help target problem areas whether that be physical pain, mental stressors, or emotional trauma. Once we find the source of the problem we teach many wellness and self-care practices such as Self-Massage, Somatic Movement, Breathwork and more to improve your health, quality of life, and overall well-being so that you can be comfortable in your home and body.

What is Somatic Movement?

It’s like a guided mindfulness meditation with slow gentle movement in resistance to gravity that is very calming to the mind and body, leaving you feeling relaxed with more stability and mobility. Somatic Movement is a technique used to retrain dysfunctional muscle memory patterns through active learning. For many of us our autopilot’s skills are outdated and need to be re-taught. Over time we can lose sensory-motor control due to injury, bad posture, and lack of movement which usually are all linked together. Those injuries from way back when still cause chronic muscle tension through guarding which change our posture and gait leading to pain, lack of mobility, and decreased quality of life. Somatic Movement helps to reset these patterns through a unique technique called pandiculation that is our bodies natural process to lengthen muscle tissue. When done with active movement instead of passive manual therapy, the body and brain learns the process of releasing contraction on its own. Once learned, the body is able to relieve tension without the help of others and can be done anywhere with a lifetime of benefits.

“Somatic” meaning body, is a buzzword in the wellness community. Somatic Movement is derived from Dr. Thomas Hanna’s work, an offshoot of Feldenkrais Method and Alexander Technique.

What is Breathwork?

Breathwork is the practice of therapeutic breathing techniques used to influence physical, mental, and emotional states. We all know how to breathe but we don’t always breathe in a functional way. We usually don’t think about breathing because we don’t have to but we can consciously change our breath pattern to achieve different nervous system responses. There’s a plethora of practices out there which can be overwhelming but they all fall under three basic categories: energizing, balancing, and relaxing. We might use a certain technique category for practice at different times of day for a desired effect on our nervous system. The breath is a powerful tool that can have a huge impact on our wellbeing and quality of life. The list of benefits is tremendous and differs with each technique but is mainly used for increased energy, sleep, digestion, and relaxation. We use Pranayama breathing techniques backed my modern science. Pranayama is an ancient branch of yoga breathing practices originating in India though popularized recently in the West.
